When I learned how easy it was to make vinaigrette at home, I was instantly converted. Why bother with preservative-filled supermarket salad dressing when you can quickly whip up fresh dressings at home using just a few key ingredients? The fun thing about salad dressing is that once you’ve figured out how to make a basic vinaigrette, you can play around with adding extra ingredients to match your meal or just to get fancy for the fun of it. Try adding in minced garlic or shallots, hot chilli flakes, sundried tomato, fresh or dried herbs and even parmesan cheese!
- 3 parts light oil – usually olive
- 1 part vinegar or other acid like lemon juice
- pinch of salt and pepper

A few years back, I was introduced Smak Dab Gourmet Mustards. The company is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba but you can find their mustards in shops across Canada and online. Carly Minish, the entrepreneur genius behind the brand makes incredible mustards that come in a host of yummy flavours like curry dijon and beer chipotle. My favourite vinaigrette variation uses Smak Dab mustard and I’ve shared it below. I should note that you can substitute with any dijon mustard but Smak Dab is my favourite.
Sweet Curry Vinaigrette
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 2 tbsp white wine vinegar
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp Smak Dab curry dijon mustard
- Pinch of salt and pepper
